Home / First Time Central Heating
In recent years, a new funding opportunity has emerged for properties that have never had centralized heating installed throughout their history, relying solely on individual gas or electric heaters.
First Time Central Heating (FTCH) grants, available for either the full cost or a significant portion, are designed for properties falling into this category, depending on the type and existing heating arrangement. These grants are part of the Energy Company Obligation 4 (ECO4), a government-funded initiative backed by utility companies.
While the ECO3 grant was introduced in 2018, the arrival of ECO4 in April 2022 marked a milestone, and we take pride in being authorized installers under this scheme. ECO4, specifically targeting low-income households, facilitates funding for the installation of central heating systems.
Certain regions in the country may have homes without central heating but equipped with radiators and boilers. Through the ECO scheme and funding from the LA Flex scheme, homeowners are now eligible for 100% grant-funded assistance for the initial installation of central heating.
As these funds are granted rather than issued as loans, there is no obligation for repayment, covering a substantial portion of the costs associated with installing central heating in your home. While some may receive enough funding to cover the entire installation, others may receive a smaller amount and need to contribute towards the overall cost.
If you meet the eligibility criteria for a government benefit, you could receive funds to install central heating in your home for the first time. However, this grant is not applicable if you already have an existing central heating system.
The eligibility requirements for the First Time Central Heating Grant align with those of the ECO scheme. To qualify, you must be receiving benefits such as Child Benefits or Housing Benefit, and your income must fall below a specified limit. Refer to the ECO Scheme eligibility guidelines for detailed information.
For ECO4 eligibility, you must be receiving benefits, be a homeowner or private tenant, and ensure that your property meets the Energy Performance Certificate rating requirements.
At Lifetime Savings, we not only assist homeowners in determining eligibility for first-time central heating grants but also provide support in installing your new central heating system with the utmost craftsmanship and adherence to the highest standards.
When you submit an online application for a grant, a Registered Installer will contact you to ensure you meet the criteria. They will assess your benefits, homeownership status, and inquire about the efficiency of your home, potentially requesting information about your Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
To apply for the ECO4 grant, utilize Climate Insulation Limited. Our skilled surveyors offer complimentary home visits, providing energy-saving recommendations and assessing your eligibility for government grants. The survey includes an examination of your current heating system, heat loss assessment, and the potential for other grant measures like cavity or solid wall insulation, as well as boiler or heat pump installation.
Homes relying solely on electric room heaters may qualify for the free Central Heating program. Eligibility for the First Time Central Heating Grant considers your current system registered as the “Main Heating System” in the EPC register. Adequate loft insulation and, if applicable, cavity wall insulation are prerequisites for this grant.
If your home lacks loft or cavity wall insulation at the time of application, arrangements can be made to address these requirements.
