Heat Pump

Heat pumps offer a versatile heating solution suitable for nearly any home and, depending on the system being replaced, may result in reduced energy bills.

These pumps extract heat from the external environment and transfer it into your home. Despite utilizing electricity, the heat energy delivered by the pump far exceeds the electrical energy required to operate the system.

The integration of more renewable energy sources into electricity grids, replacing traditional coal and gas power stations, is contributing to a decrease in carbon emissions associated with electricity use.

As the electricity grid undergoes decarbonization, heat pumps emerge as a low-carbon heating option, a trend likely to continue. In the UK, thousands of heat pumps have already been installed, with over 1.5 million deployed in Europe alone in 2020.

To meet net-zero goals, the UK Government envisions the necessity of installing millions of heat pumps in homes over the next 10-15 years.

Air source heat pumps

An air source heat pump, alternatively referred to as an “air-to-water source” heat pump, operates by transferring heat from the external environment to water, which is then utilized to heat your rooms through radiators or underfloor heating.

This type of heat pump has the capability to heat the water stored in a hot water container for your taps. The process involves the absorption of heat by a fluid from the air. This heated fluid circulates through a heat exchanger and into the heat pump, where it undergoes a temperature increase and subsequently transfers the heat to water.

Air source heat pumps

The air source heating systems can be used for various home types as they are the largest and most popular kind of domestic heat pump with thousands of installations throughout the UK.

But, there are a few things to be consider before deciding whether an air source heat pump is the right choice for you.

Does a heating system save money on energy bills?

The operational expenses of your heat pump are contingent on its construction and operational efficiency. The reduction in energy costs will vary depending on the specific unit being replaced.

Potential annual savings can be realized by installing a standard air source heat pump, inclusive of any suggested enhancements for radiators, in a typical four-bedroom detached house.
